Overall Objective

Improve cotton productivity, expand and improve large farm production, storage and processing capacity to achieve food and fibre stability and make cotton sub sector a non- oil income generation for the nation.

Project Description

• Promote policies, human capacity, facilities and technology for successful revival of   CTG industry in Nigeria.
• Ensure sustainable production of pure seeds (Breeder, Foundation and Certified) for supply of cotton seed and lint.
•  Raise production of pure seed and lint.
•  Raise production from 125,000 mt(2011) to 600,000 mt(2015)
• Raise yield from 0.6mt/Ha(2011) to 1.5mt/Ha (2015)

Research and Development

    On Bt Cotton Development in collaboration between Dow Agro sciences, IAR/ABU, NABDA and FMARD, workshops and establishment of Research laboratory among other things.

Collaborations

     There is  a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with West African Cotton Company (WACOT) for seed multiplication programme on cotton seed, and also India-Africa Technical Assistance Programme to support cotton production in Nigeria. The Memorandum with India covered among other training programme on various cotton activities as well as assistance in the establishment of textile skill schools to build the capacity of textile operators.
